Motivation questionnaire (MQ)

This month, we have organized our most famous course, the Selection and development with tests training in-person. In this article, we would like to present one of the psychological tests that is part of the course’s material.

The Motivation Questionnaire can be used efficiently during selection processes, with its help, we can map out which factors influence the candidate’s motivation and to what extent. We create a report for the candidate and the advisor/decision-maker, too. The candidate receives the determining factor divided into categories „highly motivating”, „motivating”, „demotivating” and „highly demotivating”. If career is in the candidate’s highly motivating category, than we can say that for him, a promotion is likely to be a strong driver, systems that provide fast promotion excite him, and unfair promotion decisions demotivate him. If engagement is highly demotivating to him, we can say that it is important for the candidate to have fix working hours, if motivates him if work-life balance is granted and he doesn’t need to express engagement to work. He doesn’t find overtime, business trips and company events appealing.

The advisor/decision-maker can find the results in comparison to a norma group. The profile is generated by SHL’s Assessment System and it indicates on a 1 to 10 scale how motivating the factor is to the candidate. The factors are divided in groups such as energy and dynamic, integration, inner and outer. Because motivation can fluctuate due to time and circumstances, it is best to use the questionnaire often.
