Managers play an essential and impactful role in an organization’s life. Today’s work environment makes their position even more crucial, as they are the ones who organize remote workers as well as in-office employees, they also lead the team during crisis, provide stability, and maintain trust and efficiency in the organization. A recent McKinsey study suggests that demand for good leaders is increasing in Europe, Asias and America.
Manager recruitment with objective measurement
In the last decades, psychology has provided HR specialist with reliable competency- and personality measuring methods. Objective data helps us find the candidates with the suitable competencies, and also enables us to find employees inside the organization who could fulfill the role. Most manager recruitment methods were established before the pandemic, so it is time to refresh our leader selection methods (for example transitioning from paper and pencil tests to online tests) and adapt to the changed circumstances.
The most effective recruitment tool is still the Assessment Centre. In SHL’s Assessment Centre besides competency tests and personality questionnaires there are also simulation exercises, which put the candidate in every-day work scenarios and make competencies observable. We can measure the candidate’s decision-making ability, problem solving, persuasion skills, presentation skills and communication skills. Today, there is an opportunity to transact Assesment Centers online.
A manager’s work quality greatly affects the organization’s success, so it is essential during leader recruitment to use measurement methods that enable us to choose the best candidates from the good ones.
