SHL’s General Interactive Ability Test (Interactive G+)

SHL’s General Interactive Ability Test measures the candidate’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These measurements are particularly useful in positions that require complex thinking.

Because of its adaptive quality, the test can be used for most positions and levels. It can be completed on smart devices (phone, tablet), and the three tests’ results provide a more accurate prediction than the test separately. The results are contrasted with a normative group – this way, we can determine how well the candidate uses the abilities compared to the average person.

The test measures three abilities:

  1. The „Inductive Thinking” score measures the ability that is used when processing deficient information and using certain principles to solve new problems. The candidate who achieves a high score on this test is more likely to be more theoretical and analytical in his thinking than others.
  2. The test measuring „Deductive thinking” shows us how well the candidate is able to draw logical conclusions from given information, how well he can identify the strengths and weaknesses of an argument. If the candidate scores high on this test, we can say that he is likely to excel at building well-constructed, logical arguments, working out secure solutions based on given data, and recognizing mistakes in others’ logic. He is likely to use complex data effectively during his work, and is able to make valid decisions. He is also likely to recognize and understand assumptions in logical arguments that are not directly said, and knows how to work out solutions to problems that withstand thorough inspection, too.
  3. The „Numerical thinking” test focuses on the ability that is needed when making decisions based on numbers, and drawing conclusions from numerical data. The tasks put emphasis on interpreting data rather than on calculation.

The three tests’ results make up the „General Ability” total score, which predicts the candidate’s predicted performance in work that involves thinking.

The report prepared for the candidate entails the results and their interpretations, and it also suggests ideas for developing the abilities. For example in the case of inductive thinking, it proposes the following: „Don’t take your first decisions as your final one; look for alternatives before proceeding.”. For deductive thinking it suggest „When debating with a friend or colleague, talk about how they reached their own conclusions.”. For numeric thinking it says „Practice interpreting and evaluating charts and graphs, and find alternative ways to showcase data.”

With the General Interactive Ability Test, we can gain valuable information about the candidate’s cognitive abilities which can contribute to selecting the right candidate for the vacant position.
